According to a new article in Variety, Lost in Translation collaborators Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray will reteam for a holiday special sometime in the future. (This year? Could we be so lucky?!) The project will be made for television and will feature Murray singing some timeless Christmas carols. “It’s not going to be live,” Murray tells the magazine. “We’re going to do it like a little movie. It won’t have a format, but it’s going to have music. It will have texture. It will have threads through it that are writing. There will be prose. It will have a patina style and wit to it. It will be nice.”
Bill Murray saying “it will be nice” is about all you need to get excited about a Bill Murray project. Still, Coppola adds: “Not sure when it will air, but my motivation is to hear him singing my song requests.” And if this results in a CD release of Bill Murray Sings the Holiday Hits, Murray could have a No. 1 album on his hands.
Murray’s musical side showed up on a recent clip from St. Vincent, his new film with Melissa McCarthy. Murray sings some Bob Dylan in what director Ted Melfi said was filmed in one single take:
If the audience for Musical Murray was at all unclear, the clip has been viewed 927,000 times in just over 10 days.
