Over the past few months, artists broke records, gained their first-ever Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 and more — but who had the very biggest summer 2019?
Lizzo just scored her first Hot 100 chart-topper with “Truth Hurts,” but the truth is she’s not the only one who reigned this season. Lil Nas X spent a historic 19 weeks at No. 1 with “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, which also went No. 1 on Billboard’s 2019 Songs of the Summer chart. That’s before Billie Eilish dethroned him, sweeping in up top like the bad guy late last month (duh).
Then just last week, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello earned the No. 1 spot with their steamy duet “Señorita,” marking Mendes’ first leader and the second Hot 100 No. 1 of 2019 between a co-billed male and female soloist, following Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow.”
Another group that came in for the chart-topping title is Jonas Brothers, who earned their first No. 1 with “Sucker” in March, almost exactly 12 years after their first Hot 100 entry with “Year 3000” at No. 31, and then following that up with a string of sold-out tour dates this summer.
But Taylor Swift showed the Hot 100 she’s taking over when all 18 tracks from her latest album Lover appeared on the chart, with two songs in the top 10: “You Need to Calm Down” leads at No. 4, while “Lover” sits at No. 10.
