UGK rapper Bun B is back this week with his first release since his UGK partner Pimp C died late last year. The Rap-A-Lot/Asylum set “II Trill” is led by the single “That’s Gangsta” featuring Sean Kingston, and produced by JR Rotem.
Pimp C is featured on the project, as are Lupe Fiasco, Lil Wayne, David Banner, Rick Ross, Mya, Chamillionaire, Slim Thug, Webbie, Mike Jones, 8 Ball and MJG, Z-Ro, Junior Reid and Paul Wall’s new group Expensive Taste, which includes Travis Barker and Skinhead Rob. Producers who contributed to “II Trill” include Mr. Lee, Scott Storch, Jazze Pha, Bigg Tyme, Black Out Movement, Khalil and Clinton Sparks.
Bun B said he has “great stuff to choose from. The Scott Storch track is probably one of the biggest records I’ve done in my life,” he says about “I Love That.” “It has the potential to go further than any other song I’ve done before. It was originally made for Rakim, and it’s just an incredible record. Plus, everything Storch touches goes big.”
“II Trill” is the follow-up to 2005’s “Trill,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and has sold 567,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The momentum from that project carried over into UGK’s “Underground Kingz,” which debuted last summer at No. 1 on The Billboard 200.
