John Rich, one-half of the country duo Big & Rich, isn’t too pleased about Nike’s choice to use Colin Kaepernick as the poster boy for its “Just Do It” 30th anniversary campaign.
Shortly after the campaign was revealed Monday (Sept. 3), Rich tweeted a photo of ripped up Nike socks. “Our Soundman just cut the Nike swoosh off his socks. Former marine. Get ready @Nike multiply that by the millions,” the photo’s caption reads.
It only got worse from there.
Rich went on to comment about Kaepernick’s widely publicized “pig socks,” which the former NFL quarterback wore while kneeling on the field during the National Anthem. The black socks featured a pig dressed up as a police officer, an obvious jab at law enforcement.

“Hey @Nike, if you’re gonna make the shoes, make the PIG SOCKS to match. Right? Cmon, people will LOVE that,” Rich tweeted.
Rich’s musical counterpart, Big Kenny, hadn’t commented on the Nike ad campaign at press time.
As previously reported, the new black-and-white ad features Kaepernick’s looking at the camera, with the printed words: “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything. #JustDoIt.”
Kaepernick has been a Nike athlete since 2011, but the Super Bowl QB has not played on a team since 2016.
The athlete created a national firestorm when he began kneeling during the National Anthem in an effort to protest African-American inequality in America.
Since then, a number of players on all teams have kneeled or raised a fist during the anthem for the same protest.

Hey @Nike I guess you made @Kaepernick7 your new “face” of the brand because you love the way his socks look with your shoes? @Reebok here we come. #WeStand @TomiLahren @greggutfeld @kilmeade @RedneckRiviera pic.twitter.com/tgtbl8VFzv

When you compare police to PIGS, this ends the discussion for me. If you don’t find a problem with that, then feel free to unfollow me. The police JUST SHOWED UP at our concert to protect and serve, I’ll ask them what they think and get back to you… https://t.co/S7KwlTeZos

The fact that I have to explain that MOST of us own @nike products prior to this “Revelation” that Mr. #PIGSOCKS #ColinKaepernick is now their poster man, let’s me know you’re smoking too much, and are probably living in your parents basement. https://t.co/uhR7aKRCCk

I’m owned? Nah, just saying what millions of us think. The difference is I don’t care about the firestorm. If you support #PIGSOCKS then the conversation is over anyway. https://t.co/9cOfQOZmOF
