Aside from Pharrell’s Vivienne Westwood hat, all eyes were on Beyonce at the 2014 Grammy Awards. From Her ultra sexy La Perla Spring 2013 performance number to her white sheer Michael Costello fishnet gown, Bey stole the show. That sexy wet performance will not soon be forgot. Those moves and looks were perfection.
But it’s no surprise that Queen Bey stunned at the show. She is one of the best-dressed ladies in music with famed stylist Ty Hunter behind her dazzling outfits. Fresh off styling Bey for the Grammys, Ty caught up with us to give his take on her Grammy look and reveal her favorite fashion item.
Billboard: What inspired the opening look? Was there a specific image or person you looked to?
Hunter: The style team—comprised of Raquel Smith and Timothy White (Karen Langley helped with the performance outfit)—wanted to emulate the video with a different spin. Kim Kimble did her hair, but it was all coming from the “Drunk In Love” video. Just trying to bring an even more sophisticated look to the stage.
We love the wet hair. Why did you choose this wet look?
The style team wanted to go for sexy and elegant.
What did Beyonce want to go for in terms of style?
With the red carpet look, we didn’t want anything with bling. Wanted something a little different. When we saw the Michael Costello dress, we knew instantly we found the one! We had so many options to choose from, but that one was just it.
What was your favorite part of her performance?
My favorite moment on stage was when Jay came out. I always love seeing them perform together.
Aside from Queen Bey, who do you think had killer style at the Grammys?
My favorite style moments this year were Ciara, Tamar Braxton and Katy Perry.
What look is Beyonce going for with her new album? Is there a particular place she is looking to for inspiration?
A lot of what we’re looking to do this time around is displayed in the visuals on her new album. You can see all different looks to showcase the beauty of her as a woman, a wife and a mother. You can’t sum it up with just one look.
What’s her favorite thing to wear right now?
She just gets up and goes! But she does love these body chains that Lorraine Schwartz designed for her. She loves them!
