After played on Los Angeles’ Power 106 last week, songwriter Patrick “j.Que” Smith, co-writer of Beyoncé‘s second single, “Best Thing I Never Had,” posted the original version of the song today (July 28) on his site, The Super Random.
“I’m both thrilled & grateful that #TeamBey decided to make our song the single and it sounds awesome… But, this is what the song sounded like when we wrote it,” Smith says on his site, The Super Random. “I like this version… Mostly because it’s not a ballad.”
Smith, who’s written for Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Usher and more, shares that he was inspired by the drums from Doug E. Fresh’s “The Show.” “The drums from “The Show” are what made me write to this song in the first place!”
“Best Thing I Never Had,” from Beyoncé’s fourth studio album, “4,” was written by Patrick “j. Que” Smith, Babyface, Antonio Dixon, Beyoncé, herself, Shea Taylor, Larry Griffin Jr. and Caleb McCampbell.
