Beyonce arrived at the 2016 VMAs (Aug. 28) with a sizable entourage — not only was she accompanied by her daughter Blue Ivy (in a fairy tale princess dress), Parkwood signees Chloe x Halle, and model Winnie Harlow (among other Lemonade cast members), Beyonce posed with Wanda Johnson, mother of Oscar Grant; Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner; Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin; and Lesley McSpadden-Head, mother of Michael “Mike” Brown, Jr. on the show’s white carpet.
All four women also appeared in the star’s recent visual album, which is nominated in a number of different categories including Breakthrough Long Form Video. In the film, they appear holding photos of their sons — all of whom were tragically shot and killed in racially-charged situations.
