Beyonce Knowles is now fully enthroned as the queen of the U.K. charts. The Destiny’s Child frontwoman started a second week atop the album chart with “Dangerously in Love” (Columbia), and scores the No. 1 spot on the singles tally with “Crazy in Love.”
Evanescence’s four-week run at the top of the singles list with “Bring Me To Life” (Wind Up/Epic), featuring Paul McCoy, came to an end as the track fell to No. 2 behind Knowles’ debut. Other debuts included juvenile pop act S Club 8 (formerly S Club Juniors) at No. 4 with “Fool No More” (Polydor), “21 Questions” by 50 Cent featuring Nate Dogg (Interscope/Polydor) at No. 6 and female R&B trio Mis-Teeq’s “Can’t Get It Back” (Telstar) at No. 8.
U.K. rock act Ocean Colour Scene, now signed to Sanctuary after enjoying major sales success at MCA and Universal-Island in the 1990s, made a successful return with “I Just Need Myself” at No. 13. It’s the group’s best singles chart showing since “Profit in Peace” debuted at the same position in September 1999. The band had six top-10 hits in 1996-97.
Also new inside the top-20 was “Nothing But You” by German DJ-producer Paul Van Dyk featuring Hemstock (Positiva) at No. 14, Lisa Marie Presley’s “Lights Out” (Capitol) at No. 16 and former “Fame Academy” contestant Sinead Quinn at No. 19 with “What You Need Is” (Fontana/Mercury).
On the album chart, Australian soap star-turned-singer Delta Goodrem arrived at No. 2 with “Innocent Eyes” (Epic), followed by Irish rock act the Thrills at No. 3 with “So Much for the City” (Virgin). The group recently had a No. 17 hit on the singles chart with “Big Sur.”
An active week for new entries at the top of the album survey also included a No. 5 debut for Ashanti’s “Chapter II” (Murder Inc/Mercury), Morcheeba’s “Parts of the Process” compilation (East West) at No. 6 and “Fire” by Detroit rock/dance act Electric Six at No. 7.
Metallica’s “St. Anger” (Vertigo/Mercury) is in its a fourth week at No. 1 on Music & Media’s pan-European Top 100 Albums survey, while the Evanescence track spends a fourth week at the peak of the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles survey.
