Beyoncé and Metallica are the latest additions to the performance lineup for the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, to be held Aug. 28 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. They join previously announced performers Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Good Charlotte, Coldplay and Christina Aguilera.
Jay-Z, Britney Spears, Missy Elliott, Sean Paul, Mya, Method Man, Iggy Pop, tennis star Serena Williams, and cast members from “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” and “Crank Yankers” are newly confirmed to appear on the broadcast. Other stars set to appear include Nelly, Avril Lavigne, DMX, Pharrell Williams, Duran Duran, P. Diddy, Ashanti, Kelly Clarkson, Ludacris and Snoop Dogg.
A number of concerts will take place in conjunction with the VMAs. On Aug. 25, Lil’ Jon and the Eastside Boyz will join the Ying-Yang Twins for a free show at Los Angeles’ House of Blues. Tickets were distributed beginning yesterday (Aug. 19) by Cingular Wireless stores in the area.
The following day, Simple Plan and Fountains Of Wayne will perform at Rumsey Playfield in New York’s Central Park at a free show also sponsored by Cingular.
On Aug. 27, Pop will join his bandmates in the Stooges, as well as special guests to be announced, for a show at New York’s Roseland Ballroom. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Lifebeat, which works to foster advances in HIV/AIDS research and prevention. Tickets go on sale tomorrow via Ticketmaster.
