Beyjor Lazer came to town Friday morning (July 19) with “Already,” released as part of The Lion King: The Gift collection of songs from and inspired by Disney’s latest live-action movie remake.
Beyonce and Major Lazer teamed up with Ghanian singer Shatta Wale on a sensual mood. If you were hoping for a big blast of familiar Major Lazer sounds – maybe some sirens or dancehall rhythms or really anything with color – you might be a bit disappointed. The beat is rather muted, mostly radio-friendly clap hits with bassy bits here and there that give off hookah bar vibes. It’s a good little bop, but it’s not breaking down any barriers.
