After overseeing the production of more than 3,700 music videos and new media projects, MuchFACT executive director Beverley McKee is leaving the music business to concentrate on a career in fitness. Her last day at the company will be October 29.
The former competitive athlete joined Toronto-based MuchFACT, then known as VideoFACT, in 1997. The not-for-profit organization provides production grants to Canadian independent artists for music video and new media projects, and is funded entirely by Canada’s national music television channels MuchMusic and MuchMore, divisions of Bell Media.
“MuchFACT is an amazing organization. It was a tough decision to leave,” McKee tells Billboard. “I got to participate in the creation of a lot of cool art and music. But I’ve been in the fitness world for 20 years and have always had a strong interest in health and wellness, and I’ve decided to focus my energy on helping others achieve their fitness goals. I’ll be launching my own business shortly.”
David Kines, who became chairman of MuchFACT in March but worked closely with McKee during his many years as senior vice-president of Much MTV Group, said, “Beverley has become a friend and mentor to so many music video directors and artists in Canada, not just because she signs the checks, but because she is a passionate fan of the great work these artists produce. Her steady hand at the tiller will be greatly missed.”
Since its inception in 1984, MuchFACT has allocated over $65 million (CAD) to more than 5,400 projects.
