Celebrities flooded social media in anticipation of the midterm elections, either advocating for specific candidates or simply urging their fans to get out and vote. Although the midterm elections are now over, many celebrities are keeping their political momentum going by voicing their continued support for Texas Democrat Beto O’Rourke, who lost to incumbent Republican Ted Cruz in the race for U.S. Senate on Tuesday.
After O’Rourke’s narrow loss, celebrities are calling on the 46-year-old to make a run for president in 2020. After O’Rourke’s loss, Alyssa Milano tweeted, “Beto lost? That’s ok. Now he can run for President.”
Other celebrities like Josh Gad were similarly optimistic, tweeting that the results of the midterm elections were a “win for democracy” and endorsing O’Rourke’s possible presidential run by writing “#Beto2020.”
During his campaign, musicians like Travis Scott and Khalid openly voiced their support for O’Rourke. O’Rourke even earned the favor of Beyoncé, after the singer posted an Instagram endorsing him the night of the election.
While O’Rourke has not confirmed a 2020 run for president, the celebrities have clearly spoken. Check out more #Beto2020 posts below.
