Sen. Bernie Sanders grabbed a stool, turned down the lights and dug into the absurdity of three people owning more wealth than the bottom half of America and the “most dangerous president in American history.” You know, sexy stuff. The democratic presidential candidate slipped his traditional stump speech talking points into something a bit more comfortable on Tuesday night (Nov. 26) when he joined Jimmy Fallon to slow jam the news on The Tonight Show.
“Aww yeah. Bernie Sanders is looking out for your bottom half,” Fallon crooned. “He knows it’s been neglected for too long. Now he wants to pay it some extra special attention. He’s sick and tired of having just a few people on top. That’s why Bernie’s here to spread the love.”
Fallon then asked “woke Doc Brown” for his plan to bring America Back to the Future. Easy, Sanders talked Medicare for all, the dangers of climate change and getting big money out of politics. “Mmm, mmm, mmm, you gotta listen to my bed-headed bro ham,” Fallon burbled. “He might not have a super pac, but he’s packing something super. He’s all about taking a firm stance against corporations to give people what they desire.”
“I know you’re joking, but it actually is quite sexy,” Sanders responded, assuring Fallon that he didn’t have a “big heart,” but a “completely normal sized heart.” Asked how he responds to people saying he’s too old to be president, Sanders assured voters, “I’m feeling strong, energetic and more ready than ever to fight for the American people.” That inspired The Roots to bust into Lizzo’s “Good as Hell,” with Sanders jumping in on the chorus.
After Sanders was photographed with Ariana Grande over the weekend, the senator said Ari is “not only a great entertainer, which she is. We were at a concert with her in Atlanta, just a zillion people there, gave a great show…but she’s doing more than that. She is a very socially-conscious, politically-conscious person, and she’s doing exactly what has to be done. She is reaching out to young people, getting them involved in the political process.” He said that the singer has registered 20,000 people to vote at her shows so far.
Sanders also talked about his recent heart issue and proved he’s recovered by shooting some hoops with Fallon and digging deeper into the climate crisis.
