Since forming in 2009, French-U.S. duo Benoit & Sergio have achieved considerable crossover success in the dance music sphere without losing the esteem of their underground peers. In 2011 for instance, they were named iTunes Breakthrough Electronic Artist of the Year while also securing a spot in Resident Advisor’s Top 10 Live Acts.
It’s this kind of nuance that earned them support from Visionquest, DFA, Hot Creations and more over the years. Now they can add another imprint to their repertoire: Matt Tolfrey’s Leftroom Limited.

The pair’s new single for the label, “House With 500 Rooms,” has been over two years in the making. “The track began in a hotel room in Dubai a couple years ago with just the piano line,” Sergio says. “The initial vocals — ‘my house is bigger than your house’ — were put down a few days later back in Berlin as a kind of wink and nod to ‘Losing My Edge’ by LCD Soundsystem.”
The resulting creation exemplifies the duo’s appeal, melding light-hearted lyricism mixed with infectious house grooves. Beyond that, there’s an underlying sense of sophistication that belies their seemingly carefree aesthetic.
The nearly 10-minute jam has already become a fan-favorite: “We’ve been playing this track live for a bit and we notice some people already know the vocal melody at shows,” Sergio says. “That’s cool.”
Benoit & Sergio’s “House With 500 Rooms” will be released on Leftroom Limited on Oct. 16 with an accompanying dub and radio edit.
