Ben Harper’s Aug. 4 concert in Los Angeles will be the subject of the DVD “Live at the Hollywood Bowl,” due Nov. 18 from Virgin. The performance was filmed by directorial team the Malloys, who have previously shot videos for Avril Lavigne, Metallica and the Black Eyed Peas. Their clips for Harper’s “Diamonds on the Inside” and “With My Own Two Hands” are included on the DVD.
The performance found Harper and his band the Innocent Criminals running through tracks from throughout their catalog, from early favorites such as “Burn One Down” and “Excuse Me Mr.,” to more recent fare such as “Steal My Kisses,” “Brown Eyed Blues” and “Temporary Remedy.”
Bonus features include a soundcheck recording of “Ground on Down,” a backstage acoustic performance of “Glory & Consequence” and a photo gallery of live and off-stage shots.
Also on Nov. 18, Virgin will unveil a four-track EP of songs drawn from the Hollywood Bowl show, including Harper’s cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing,” “Brown Eyed Blues,” “Amen Omen” and “With My Own Two Hands”/”War.”
On Oct. 8 in Oslo, Harper will kick off an extensive European tour in support of his latest Virgin studio album, “Diamonds on the Inside.” The set debuted in March at No. 19 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 303,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
