Daniel Bedingfield performed a lunchtime concert in the European Parliament today (March 21) to help launch the “Stop the Traffik” campaign, which is aimed at raising awareness about the trafficking in human beings.
This is not the first time Bedingfield has been involved in a charity. The New Zealand-born Brit award winner is an active member of the Make Poverty History campaign, and he sung on the Band Aid 20 version “Do They Know It’s Christmas.”
Irish European member of parliament Simon Coveney launched “Stop the Traffik” to facilitate change through educating both at the source and receiving countries as well as supporting victims of the crime.
“Human trafficking is a modern day form of slavery. It’s the third largest source of income for organised crime, after trafficking in drugs and arms,” Coveney said, adding that 100,000 women are trafficked into Europe every year and forced to work as prostitutes.
