Austin City Limits will have a sister festival in Australia for the first time.
Headlined by Beck, Justice, Grace Jones and Phoenix, the new one-day Sydney City Limits Music Festival is slated for Feb. 24, 2018 at Sydney’s Centennial Park, a week out from the March 3 Auckland City Limits, which returns for a second time at Western Springs.
The lineups include Vance Joy (Sydney only), Tash Sultana, George Ezra (Auckland only), The Libertines, The Head and the Heart, Car Seat Headrest and others. Tickets go on sale Nov. 1 from www.sydneycitylimits.com and www.aucklandcitylimits.com, respectively.
With Sydney City Limits, Live Nation Entertainment adds muscle to its expanding portfolio of outdoor live music events in Australia. The inaugural event is produced by local promoter Secret Sounds in partnership with C3 Presents and LN. Last year, LN acquired a controlling stake in Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco’s Secret Sounds Group, the live entertainment company behind the popular Splendour in the Grass and Falls festivals.
C3 Presents had a rough introduction to the Aussie festivals market when, in 2012, the Austin, Texas-based promoter formed a partnership with the Big Day Out, a venerable festival brand that was in decline. C3 later took full ownership of the struggling BDO, but the once titanic touring fest was scrapped after its 2014 run and has yet to return. “We love Australia and BDO, and we will be back,” C3 co-founder Charlie Walker told Billboard at the time.
Live Nation Entertainment completed the acquisition of a controlling stake in C3 Presents back in 2014.
