Monday mornings can be tired, busy, or just plain awful. For most of us, the last thing they are is funky. That’s why you should absolutely tune into this new joint from Seattle electro-poppers Beat Connection, and make it the background to whatever un-funky activities you’re doing.
Check out “Rosealene,” premiering exclusively on Billboard:
You might think you know where those syrupy, strutting beats are headed, but wait for the little surprise time warp that comes in at the 1:10 mark. “Rosealene” comes from Beat Connection’s new album Product 3, due Oct. 23 on Anti- Records.
Singer/guitarist Tom Eddy tells Billboard what he’s getting at when he sings, “I want to get to you know you Rosealene, real life woman of my dreams:”
“Rosealene” embodies a specific feeling you get when you desire someone that you maybe don’t have any business desiring. The unspoken boundaries that exist between individuals for social, often self-imposed reasons, are hard to overcome. The song is sort of an inner dialogue about feeling a real, deep down attraction for an amazing woman and wishing you could simplify reality. The sentiment is, “You might not take me seriously for whatever reason, but I genuinely dig what you’ve got going on, and I just want to get to know you. Is that so wrong?”
If it is, then hey, Beat Connection doesn’t want to be right.
