PLUNDERWORLD: Electronic act Underworld is giving away dozens of songs as free MP3s via its official Web site.
Split into “Archive 1” and “Archive 2,” the band’s download goodies include three entire concerts from 1998 and 1999, as well as a handful of studio creations.
Fans can also download visual art created for the site — “diary” images that have graced the band’s home page and a host of short digital films.
DEFTUNES: Rockers the Deftones also have a trove of MP3s and zipped audio/video files posted at their official Web site for free download.
The offerings include demos of “God’s Hands,” “Korea,” “Some People” and “Gift,” as well as live versions of “Bumble D,” “Good Morning Beautiful,” “Nosebleed” and others.
Covers of the Backstreet Boys’ “Backstreet’s Back,” the Smiths’ “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want,” Limp Bizkit’s “1999” and the Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” are also featured.
FRANZ’S ‘FFFIRE’: Mercury prize winning act Franz Ferdinand is offering two for-pay, download-only singles from its official Web site.
“This Fffire” is a “totally re-recorded version” of the group’s hit “This Fire” and is offered alongside a “radical reworking” of the song by Playgroup, featuring Output’s Trevor Jackson, and a video clip for the song. Each costs £0.99 ($1.87).
Also on the site, the Franz is giving away a free download of album track “Tell Her Tonight” featuring re-recorded vocals of drummer Paul Thomson singing in German. The cut was originally slated for the “Michael” single, but including it on that release would have rendered it ineligible for the U.K. chart, so the band has instead made it available on its site.
