‘BUSINESS’ CASUAL:Onstage with nothing but an acoustic guitar, 22-year-old Ace Enders is the wise younger brother you wish you had. His voice is confident and full at parts, vulnerable and breaking at others, even capable of the occasional raw, gut-wrenching scream.
The endearing contrast is found throughout Enders’ first solo turn as I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody’s Business. His self-titled album is one of the debut releases as part of the new Drive-Thru/Sanctuary distribution pact.
The New Jersey native has been part of the Drive-Thru label since he was a teenager, releasing two EPs and the full-length, “The Room’s Too Cold,” as lead singer/guitarist of the Early November. The group appeared on the Warped Tour and saw its releases dent both The Billboard 200 and the Top Heatseekers chart.
Enders wrote most of the songs for “The Room’s Too Cold” after the break-up of a long-term relationship, and while the singer’s solo turn stays true to his sensitive emo leanings, a combination of strings and keyboards also lend a feeling of release from emotional turmoil.
Co-produced by the Early November producer Chris Badami, the 15-track set scores Enders his first solo spot on the charts with a No. 27 bow on Top Heatseekers this week.
Enders performed several songs from the album during Drive-Thru’s Oct. 15 acoustic breakfast at New York’s CMJ Music Marathon. The singer is slated for in-store shows around the country throughout November and will join Coheed & Cambria and Lost Prophets for a performance at Poughkeepsie New York’s Mid Hudson Civic Center with the Early November on Nov. 30.
