In honor of International Women’s Day, the BBC is paying homage to a groundbreaking artist, Björk, with a one-hour audio documentary about the Icelandic singer’s career.
Björk Unveils Vulnicura During Emotional NYC Matinee Show
Posted today on the BBC Radio 6 site, “Army of Me: Björk Now” chats with the artist about her career and new album, Vulnicura, and the tricky emotional terrain she navigated to create the latter. (The very personal record was inspired by her split from her longtime partner, the contemporary artist Matthew Barney.) In the freewheeling interview portions, the cerebral artist is frank and even self-effacing as she talks about redefining relationships and, occasionally, turning to a handle of vodka. Her Vulnicura producer Arca also weighs in on their creative chemistry and Björk’s penchant for pushing boundaries.
“Army of Me” aligns with the opening of Björk’s career retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and includes a portion of the audio guide for Songlines, an interactive audio tour within the exhibit. The singer also debuted at Carnegie Hall yesterday, unveiling emotive tracks fron Vulnicura.
