Universal Music Indonesia has turned to the digital music sector to hire its new GM, Bimbom Barkah, appointed with effect from today (Jan. 25).
Jakarta-based Barkah was previously managing director of Jakarta-based digital-download Web site ImportMusic.com. In his new role, he will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s daily operations and developing future business strategies for domestic and international repertoire, as well as strengthening local media and corporate alliances.
Barkah reports to Kuala Lumpur-based Universal Music Group International (ASEAN), senior VP Sandy Monteiro. He takes over from Universal Music Indonesia managing director Anthony Shih, who retired in October 2007. Since then, Monteiro had been acting as the company’s interim head.
Barkah has more than 15 years’ experience in the music business, including programming, marketing and promotion posts at Hard Rock FM, MTV South East Asia, BMG Indonesia and Warner Music Indonesia.
“Bimbom is a dynamic music executive with a comprehensive background in so many aspects of the industry, which will serve us well in today’s ever-changing market,” said Monteiro in a statement. “I’m confident he will lead Universal Music Indonesia into an exciting new era.”
