On a rainy Wednesday night in New York, Pusha T celebrated his newly inked deal with Def Jam and upcoming EP release, “Fear of God II: Let Us Pray” (Decon) with a last-minute performance at the Bowery Hotel hosted by the Misstress of Ceremonies Miss Info of Hot 97 fame.
Pusha performed classic and current songs before a packed crowd full of industry insiders (Vibe Music Editor John Kennedy, RapRadar’s Elliott Wilson, Nahright’s Nation, Itsthereal’s Eric and Jeff Rosenthal, Translation’s Toshi Kondo, Complex’s EIC Noah Callahan-Bever), celebrity friends (Busta Rhymes, DJ Khaled) and reps (Chris Clancy, manager of Odd Future; publicist Gabe Tesoriero; Priya Bhambri and Massah David from MVD Inc.; Jane Kim from Team Epiphany; Kozza from SOBs and more), all walking back and forth from a separate VIP room to the main room.
While blazing through his discography, from his solo project “Fear of God” and his work with the Clipse, Pusha T brought guests to join him on stage such as Abliva, French Montana, Lloyd Banks and Kevin Cossom. One of the most entertaining guests of the night was Odd Future’s Tyler, the Creator. Tyler hit the stage as soon as Pusha T’s band struck a chord to their collaborative song, “Trouble on My Mind.”
After taking off his gray hoodie, Tyler jumped into the crowd, dancing with fans and at one point kissing a female fan. “Shout out to the white girl that made me kiss her,” Tyler joked at the end of “Trouble.” Earlier in the night the carefree rapper made another female fan’s night by inking her stomach.
Everyone in the room wondered if Kanye West was going to make an appearance (hopefully to perform “Runaway” with Pusha) but unfortunately he didn’t.
Pusha-T closed the night with a two-minute video, projected against the wall, showcasing the making of “Fear of God II.”
