Billboard’s Leila Cobo presented “Jenni Rivera: The Incredible Life of a Warrior Butterfly” (Penguin), at a book signing at Books & Books in Miami.
It was the latest of several events where Cobo has promoted her top-selling biography of the late Jenni Rivera, who died tragically in a plane crash last December. Cobo answered questions from Rivera fans at last month’s LeaLa Book Fair at the Los Angeles Convention Center and shared the stage with Edward James Olmos at the Chicago Book Fair. There, the actor conducted a Q&A session with Cobo on Rivera’s life and work.
Cobo, who is Billboard’s executive director of Latin content & programming and covered Rivera’s chart accomplishments on Billboard for nearly a decade, was asked by Penguin to write a biography on Rivera following the singer’s death last December. The Spanish-language version of the book, “Jenni Rivera” La Increible Historia de una Mariposa Guerrera” (Penguin), released in March, topped Nielsen Bookscan’s Spanish-language lists for the first three weeks from its release, becoming the top-selling Spanish-language new release in the country.
Today, the title continues to lead all biographies in Spanish for the 10th consecutive week.
“This biography was done with great care and respect for a wonderful artist and fascinating personality,” Cobo said. “As a writer, it’s very gratifying to see it resonate with its audience.”
“Penguin Group is very proud of the bestselling biography of Jenni Rivera and we are pleased having author Leila Cobo among our leading group of writers,” said Carlos Azula, publisher of CA Press at the Penguin Group.
Cobo’s previous book, “The Second Time We Met,” was recently awarded a Latino Book Award for Best Popular Fiction at the New York Book Fair last week. The novel, about a soccer player in search of his biological mother, was released in 2012.
