U.K. independent Back Yard Recordings, the label behind U.S. alternative act Gossip, has launched a publishing arm called Back Yard Music.
The new venture will be administered worldwide by London-based Blue Mountain Music, which also administers the Bob Marley, U2 and John Martyn catalogs.
Back Yard Recordings founder Gil Goldberg will oversee Back Yard Music. All A&R and creative work will be handled through Back Yard’s north London office, while Blue Mountain’s U.K. office will handle administration and general business affairs.
Back Yard Music’s roster will not be exclusive to Back Yard Recordings artists and will focus on “interesting, creative and quirky artists looking to break the rules while still maintaining a crossover, radio-friendly potential,” according to Goldberg.
Goldberg says he is already in talks with a potential new signing but would not reveal details.
