On Sunday (Oct. 8), Mike Pence walked out of the Colts-49ers game after NFL players protested racist police brutality by ‘taking a knee’ during the national anthem. The vice president announced his departure over Twitter, writing, “I left today’s Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem.”

Artists like Killer Mike criticized Pence for undermining the First Amendment with his walk-out, but Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose took the VP to task for other reasons. “Thanks [White House] 4 the $200k Colts game PR stunt,” the “Paradise City” singer tweeted.
Thanks WH 4 the $200k Colts game PR stunt.

By “$200k,” Rose is referring to CNN’s estimate that Pence’s plane excursion cost taxpayers over $200,000. The rock star’s assertion that Pence’s actions were a “PR stunt” echoes the sentiments of San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid. The player, who participated in the protests, said, “This is PR.”
