The good folks of the Netherland’s Awakenings Festival really, really love techno. They love techno so much, they organized a non-stop, three day, 40-hour techno party to ring in 2018. It was wild, it was beastly, and it was all just a appetite whetter for the main event, coming for a triumphant landing Saturday and Sunday, June 30 and July 1.
Since 1997, Awakenings Festival has brought the finest in international techno talent. With high-profile names and critically acclaimed up-and-comers, it has earned the reputation of being a kind of pilgrimage or one-stop-shop for all things fabulous in techno’s underground world. This year’s two-day event features headline performances from the legendary Carl Cox, as well as a double-headliner from Adam Beyer, who will perform a solo set both Saturday and Sunday. Nina Kraviz also will play solo sets both days, as well as Sven Väth.
Richie Hawtin will bring his CLOSE performance to the Dutch hamlet of Spaarnwoude, about an hour west of Amsterdam by car or public transport. Joseph Capriati, Kölsch, Maceo Plex, Ben Klock, Jamie Jones, Ricardo Villalobos and Seth Troxler help round out the monster of a bill. Also, look out for special showcase takeovers from Maceo Plex and Mosaic,. Carl Cox and Intec, Adam Beyer and Drumcode, and Joris Voorn with Joris Voorn & Friends.
Eight hulking stages will be erected, transforming the fields into each emotionally transportive “Arena.” They’ll be lit up like disco spaceships, each manned by a techno titan out to abduct your mind, body and soul. Truly, there may not be another festival that presents techno’s brooding magnificence on such a massive scale.
It’s going down Saturday and Sunday, June 30 and July 1, with set times that run from noon to 11 p.m. Visit Awakenings online for tickets and more information, and check the full lineup below.
