Avril Lavigne’s music video for her new single “Rock N Roll” is the rare music video that you absolutely have to watch all the way through. Over five minutes, Lavigne spoofs her “Sk8er Boi” past, wields a razorblade guitar and gives a tip of the cap to Billy Zane (!), who promptly ascends into space. The video (which takes most of its cues from the comic book world) is loud, unsubtle and utterly fantastic.
Some of the highlights of the music video, which was directed by Chris Marrs Piliero, is the post-car crash kiss with Danica McKellar, best known as Winnie Cooper on “The Wonder Years”; Lavigne ripping off her nemesis’ mustache to reveal his true identity; and of course, the oddball cameo from the “Titanic” villain. As visually impressive as a Bearshark may be, the creature has nothing on the salt-and-pepper beard that Billy Zane sports on his magical segway. Please read that last sentence again.

“Rock N Roll” is the second single from Lavigne’s self-titled fifth studio album, due out this fall on Epic Records. Its predecessor, “Here’s To Never Growing Up,” has sold 1 million downloads since its release earlier this year, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Like “Here’s To Never Growing Up,” “Rock N Roll” was co-written by Lavigne’s new husband, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger. The new single will hit digital retailers on Aug. 27.
