Some AT&T customers will soon have access to a Spotify Premium subscription on the house.
Starting tomorrow (Aug. 6), AT&T Unlimited &More Premium wireless plan customers can select Spotify Premium from one of seven “entertainment perk” options (alongside HBO, Showtime, Pandora and more), at no extra charge. The partnership marks the beginning of an “ongoing collaboration” between Spotify and the telecommunications giant.
“We’re excited to begin this new relationship with AT&T to provide millions of their customers with a seamless listening experience and easy access to more than 50 million tracks, billions of playlists and a variety of podcasts wherever they are,” Spotify vp of premium partnerships Marc Hazan said in a statement announcing the news. “We continue to build relationships with world-class partners like AT&T to bring our Spotify Premium product to new audiences in the U.S. and across the globe.”
Existing Spotify Premium subscribers who have or join an &More Premium wireless plan at AT&T — the provider’s priciest unlimited data plan, starting at $80 monthly per line — will get to keep their current Spotify account, for which AT&T will foot the bill. And another group of eligible AT&T customers will be offered a free six-month trial of Spotify Premium, after which they can subscribe for $9.99 per month.
“We’re thrilled to add Spotify Premium, the market leader in music streaming with more than 100 million subscribers worldwide, to our premium lineup,” added Mitch Farber, vp consumer marketing, AT&T Mobility & Entertainment in a statement. “It’s another way we are working to deliver more value to AT&T customers with unlimited wireless and endless entertainment.”
Spotify recently reported a user base of 108 million premium subscribers — and 232 million total active monthly users — as of the end of June. AT&T counts more than 77 million wireless subscribers.
Verizon and Apple Music unveiled a similar partnership in January, whereby Verizon added the streaming service to its Beyond Unlimited and Above Unlimited plans at no extra charge.
