Though 2019 may have been the year that ATEEZ wanted the world to learn to “Say My Name,” with the release of their first single of the year “Answer” on Monday (Jan. 6), the rising K-pop act is hoping that 2020 is the year where we’re all calling out to them.
Fronting the act’s Treasure Epilogue: Action to Answer EP, the follow-up to their debut Treasure album series from the group, “Answer” arrived with a sense of melodious bombast, bringing the group’s typical flare while layering it with references to past releases.
“Answer” is ATEEZ’s first single of 2020, and follows the likes of “Pirate King,” “Treasure,” “Say My Name,” “Illusion,” “Wave,” and “Wonderland,” each of which tied into accompanying Treasure albums.
Ateez debuted with Treasure Ep.1: All to Zero in October 2018, and have rapidly grown to become one of the most prominent rising acts in the K-pop scene.
“Answer,” which is accompanied by four other new tracks on the Epilogue album, was released alongside a music video that similarly ties into past eras of ATEEZ’s creative artistry, bringing back the duality of the group that was previously featured in music videos, most prominently reuniting the act with their dashing “Hala Hala” counterparts. The visual ends with a haunting, white-clad, masked figure, likely a nod as to what’s to come for the act through upcoming releases this year, perhaps even hinting to a new era beyond the Treasure series.
ATEEZ signed with RCA last year, and are set to tour North America in April.
