Please tell me what Chi-Lites or Temptations song does Beyoncé sample in her new single “Crazy in Love?” I recognize the bridge/horn solo.
Camille E. Burke
Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” samples the Chi-Lites “Are You My Woman? (Tell Me So).” The single was a No. 8 hit on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart in 1971.
Beyoncé’s single is No. 1 atop Billboard’s Hot 100 this week, and her debut solo album, “Dangerously in Love” (Columbia), bowed at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 two weeks ago.
I’m a huge fan of Maroon 5. I was hoping you could tell me how many units the band’s debut CD “Songs About Jane” has sold and how well the single, “Harder To Breathe” has done. Also, has the band ever charted under the name Kara’s Flowers (its previous name)?
Maroon 5’s “Songs About Jane” has sold 138,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, since its release in June 2002. The Octone/J/RMG album first appeared on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart in December 2002. It’s been slowly building in sales since, and this week is No. 5 on the tally. Additionally, it’s at No. 146 on The Billboard 200.
The track “Harder To Breathe” (which is a favorite in our Los Angeles office) is at No. 19 on Billboard’s Adult Top 40 chart. It peaked at No. 15 on July 5.
As for Maroon 5’s previous incarnation, Kara’s Flowers, that group released one album with Reprise in 1997, which has sold 5,000 copies. Kara’s Flowers never appeared on any Billboard charts.
Can you tell me how many copies Mariah Carey’s “Charmbracelet” has sold as of July 2003 in the U.S.? And has the album been certified double-platinum yet?
Thanks for any info you can provide.
Mariah Carey’s “Charmbracelet” has sold 1.06 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Released in December 2002, the set has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of 1 million units.
