CAN’T GET KYLIE OUT OF MY HEADHello Keith,
I was wondering why I haven’t seen Kylie Minogue’s “Fever” album on the charts. If I’m not mistaken it has done really well here. Also her singles for “Love At First Sight” and “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” have been all over the radio stations, but why haven’t they showed up on the charts at all? How did her album do this time? Do you think she’ll be back in the U.S. soon?
Thanks,
MichaelHello Michael,
Kylie has had a good deal of success on our charts this past year. Her “Fever” album debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 earlier this year and has since sold 838,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan. She’s charted two singles on the Billboard Hot 100: “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” (No. 7) and “Love At First Sight” (No. 23). The third single from “Fever” is “Come Into My World.” The Capitol track just went to radio recently, so it should debut on the charts soon.
Minogue is currently out of the U.S. right now, but she’ll be returning to the States soon to do a number of radio station concerts. Those “Jingle Ball” events include WXKS Boston on Dec. 11, WHTZ (Z100) New York on Dec. 12, and KIIS Los Angeles on Dec. 15.
SMOOTH FLOWHi,
I love the new group Floetry and their sound is so hot. I was just wondering how their album was doing. I hope it’s doing well.
TBHi,
Floetry’s DreamWorks debut set, “Floetic,” opened at No. 19 on The Billboard 200 and No. 4 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. It has shifted 117,000 in the month since it has been out. The lead single from the disc, also titled “Floetic,” hit No. 29 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks.
PLATNIUM BLONDEKeith,
A couple of weeks ago Kelly Clarkson’s two-sided single “A Moment Like This/Before Your Love” went gold (RIAA certified gold indicates 500,000 units shipped to retail). RCA stopped shipping the single at 700,000 units but released both songs on the “American Idol — Greatest Moments” CD. Can Kelly go platinum this way?
Thanks,
MarkMark,
Kelly Clarkson’s single cannot be certified platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) unless it has shipped one million units to retailers. Since RCA has stopped shipping the single at 700,000, as you say, then it can’t reach platinum status.
You can’t merge an album’s sales with a single’s sales in order achieve gold or platinum status. The “Greatest Moments” album can go gold or platinum on its own, but its award can’t be shared with a single.
