I’m writing from Australia as I’m trying to settle an argument with a friend of mine. It started with this question: What three artists had the top three selling singles in the U.S. in 2007?
I cannot seem to find clear stats or a definitive list anywhere online so was helping you would be able to shed some light on the situation.

Would the top three selling digital track downloads of 2007 suffice?
If so, the are:
Soulja Boy Tell’em “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” 2.7 million
Fergie, “Big Girls Don’t Cry” 2.4 million
Gwen Stefani, “The Sweet Escape” 2.2 million
If you were specifically speaking of singles (as in physical CD singles) so few are manufactured and released anymore, it’s almost irrelevant to discuss their sales.

I have a question regarding an album I was so sure would have been the best of the year, Mariah Carey’s “E=MC2.” I know she has more followers than haters when it comes to her music style. I personally felt this album was fantastic and have enjoyed it more then “The Emancipation of Mimi.” It has a good selection of fun hip songs on it (“Side Effects,” “Cruise Control,” “O.O.C.,” “That Chick”). However, the album itself has faded from the radio quite quickly.
Just how well has this CD done on the market?

Hi Jonathan,
So far, “E=MC2” has sold 1,181,000 copies in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan. It is the sixth biggest selling albums of the year in America so far.
However, the album slipped off the Billboard 200 chart this week after 25 weeks on the list. It debuted at No. 1 upon its release in April.
Carey has so far charted four singles on the Billboard Hot 100 from the
album: “Touch My Body” (No. 1), “Bye Bye” (No. 19), “Migrate” (No. 92) and “I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time” (No. 58).

I was really hoping you can help me with a small problem. I was trying to find out which act has sold more albums: Danity Kane or the Pussycat Dolls. I just can’t seem to find the information anywhere.
Also, I like to support all the “Making the Band” artists, so could you also tell me exactly how many albums Donnie Klang and Day26 have sold?

Hello Sanyal,
There’s no contest. The Pussycat Dolls have sold 3 million in the U.S. with their two albums, compared to the 1.5 million that Danity Kane has shifted with its two releases.
Donnie Klang’s “Just a Rolling Stone” has sold 38,000 while Day26’s self-titled set has moved 361,000.
