Hi Keith,
Can you give me an update on Paris Hilton’s album? I heard her single “Screwed” well over a year ago and for a while it looked like the album was coming out in early 2005. Is it still happening?

Hi David,
During the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show on Aug. 28, Paris Hilton and producer Scott Storch indicated that the album might be released in early 2006. Storch also said that a single intended for dance club play could be out before the end of the year.
Hilton’s long-gestating album has been in the works ever since 2004 — back when the set was originally thought to be out in early 2005. “Screwed” was leaked about a year ago and was played once on KIIS Los Angeles, then made the rounds on the Internet.

I’ve heard a rumor that Bette Midler has a new album in the works for this fall — another tribute similar to that of her “Rosemary Clooney Songbook” album. This time it’s covers of Peggy Lee tunes. Is this true? Do you have any information on this rumor?

The Divine Miss M’s new album, “Bette Midler Sings the Peggy Lee Songbook,” will be released Oct. 25 in the United States via Columbia. A track list and other assorted details have not yet been announced.
The “Peggy Lee” album is the follow-up to Midler’s 2003 set “Bette Midler Sings the Rosemary Clooney Songbook.” That effort debuted at No. 14 on The Billboard 200, spent 22 weeks on the chart and has sold 721,000 U.S. copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

I was on Yahoo the other day and I saw a video from Fiona Apple called “The Parting Gift.” It was just Fiona singing by a piano. Now, since this is on
Yahoo! Launch that must mean a new album is coming out. I know you get asked tons of questions about Fiona but does she really have a new album coming out?

Indeed, Fiona Apple will release her new album next month. As first reported by Billboard.com, “Extraordinary Machine” will be released Oct. 4 via Epic.
The set, largely produced Mike Elizondo and co-produced by Brian Kehew, is a revamp of the tracks that were leaked onto the Internet some months ago, along with a rumor that Epic rejected the album. Two Jon Brion-produced songs from the original sessions — the title track and “Waltz” — remain untouched on the new disc.
“All in all, it’s a Fiona Apple record,” Elizondo told Billboard.com. “She has a very distinct style of writing and her melodies are amazing.”
The long-awaited set will be Apple’s first release since 1999’s “When the Pawn…”
