SEEKING LISA MARIEHi Keith,
I absolutely love Lisa Marie Presley’s second CD, “Now What!” I loved her first CD “To Whom It May Concern” and wondered how her sophomore CD would be. Let me tell you it is nothing short of awesome!
How is the new one doing? She has a really strong fan base but I am hoping the rest of the world will discover her amazing talent. I heard the song “Idiot” was going to be her next single. Do you have any information or a release date on this?
Thanks,
Betsy
ClevelandHi Betsy,
“Now What” has sold 160,000 in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, since it was released in April. The CD opened high on The Billboard 200 — No. 9 — but then swiftly tumbled down the chart. It fell off after seven weeks.
“To Whom It May Concern,” has sold 596,000 to date in America. It also helped that it had a hit single in “Lights Out.” The track hit No. 18 on our Adult Top 40 airplay chart and was in heavy rotation on VH1. The new album never found a hit. Its first single, a cover of Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry,” only made one of our charts. It reached No. 36 on the Adult Contemporary tally.
“Idiot” is the next single, and has already been sent to radio. It has not charted on any of the charts we tabulate.
MORE MIDLER?Hi Keith!,
I’ve heard a rumor that Bette Midler has a new album in the works for this fall — another tribute album similar to that of her “Rosemary Clooney Songbook” album. This time it’s covers of Peggy Lee tunes. Is this true?
Could you also tell me how “Songbook” and her other albums have sold during the Nielsen SoundScan era? I know she has a lot of albums and I think it would be interesting to see how many of her older albums have sold when SoundScan starting keeping track.
Thank You!
Dustin
TorontoHi Dustin,
We’re looking in to the Bette Midler rumors you’ve been hearing. So far, we’ve got nothing confirmed. But we’ll definitely let you know if we hear something.
Midler’s last album, “Bette Midler Sings The Rosemary Clooney Songbook,” has sold 721,000 in the U.S. It is her third best-selling set in America since SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. Her top two sellers are “Experience the Divine: Greatest Hits” (2 million) and “Some People’s Lives” (1.2 million).
BEAUTIFUL BEBELDear Keith,
Ever since last year, I have been enamored with Bebel Gilberto’s indescribable voice and enchanting melodies. There’s no way to describe her talent without underselling her; she is truly one of a kind. Can you please tell me how many copies her four releases (“Tanto Tempo,” “Tanto Tempo Remixes,” “Bebel Gilberto” and “Bebel Gilberto Remixed”) have moved in the United States, as well as if she has any touring plans?
Thanks,
RudyHi Rudy,
Bebel Gilberto’s four U.S. releases have sold a collective 455,000 units. Here is the rundown: “Tanto Tempo” (284,000), “Bebel Gilberto” (101,000), “Tanto Tempo Remixes” (54,000) and “Bebel Gilberto: Remixed” (16,000).
Right now, Gilberto is on tour in Brazil. However, she’ll be coming back to the United States on Sept. 8. That day she plays the House of Blues in Los Angeles, followed by two nights (Sept. 9-10) at the Hollywood Bowl.
