Answers to readers’ questions about INXS, Bilboard’s singles charts and Madonna. RETURN OF A ‘DIVA’?
Hello Keith,
Since learning a few months ago that Annie Lennox is working on a new album, I’ve taken a renewed interest in her previous work and realized I’d never seen any sales information for her. I was hoping you could kindly tell us how many copies her three albums have sold here and if there is a release date for the new album.
Thanks much,
James McCowan

Hi James,
I too read at Annie Lennox’s official Web site (www.annie-lennox.co.uk) that she is nearing the completion of a new album. However, a release date for the set has not been announced.
Lennox’s last album, 2003’s “Bare,” has sold 826,000 in the U.S. She only has two other albums: the 1995 covers set “Medusa” (1.9 million) and 1992’s “Diva” (2.7 million).
Lennox last visited The Billboard 200 chart when she and David Stewart’s Eurythmics “Ultimate Collection” reached No. 116 in late 2005. The set contained two new songs, including the No. 1 Hot Dance Club Play hit “I’ve Got A Life (It’s the Only Thing That’s Mine).” TRACKING A DIVA
Hi Keith,
Love reading your column each week. I have a question that I hope you can and will answer for me. I’m a long-time fan of Janet Jackson and see that you answer many questions regarding her, but I don’t recall seeing any questions/answers regarding her album/CD sales. Could you please list the sales of all her 10 releases since SoundScan began tracking data in 1991? (Even those albums that were released before then.)
Thanks!

Hi Tavares,
Indeed, I receive a lot of questions regarding Janet Jackson — especially about her sales.
So, in brief, here is the rundown of Jackson’s albums sales, starting with her most recent release, “20 Y.O.” and going backwards in time. Keep in mind, the sales are for the U.S. and only date back to 1991, when Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data.
“20 Y.O” (2006; 463,000)
“Damita Jo” (2004; 993,000)
“All For You” (2001; 3.1 million)
“The Velvet Rope” (1997; 3.2 million)
“Design Of A Decade 1986/1996” (2.3 million)
“janet.” (1993; 7.0 million)
“Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814” (1989; 1.3 million)
“Control” (1986; 473,000)
“Dream Street” (1984; 21,000)
“Janet Jackson” (1982; 62,000) DIVA ‘WAS HERE’
Hi Keith,
I’m a big fan of Kelis and I was wondering how well her three American releases have sold in the United States. I know overseas she has done well with “Tasty” and “Kaleidoscope,” but can you tell me how she’s done in the U.S.? I’ve been curious ever since her latest album, “Kelis Was Here,” fell off the charts.
James Boyd
Hi James,
Kelis newest album, “Kelis Was Here,” slipped off The Billboard 200 chart after only six weeks. It has sold 126,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Her other two American albums, 2003’s “Tasty” and 1999’s “Kaleidoscope” has sold 528,000 and 249,000, respectively.
