ASCAP today launched a new online music resource intended to introduce listeners to emerging ASCAP talent.
ASCAP Network, which is available through the performing rights organization’s Web site, will allow users to download podcasts or listen to streaming audio of ASCAP Radio, which is programmed and hosted by ASCAP staff members as well as guest hosts from its membership.
“We’re taking advantage of the existing intelligence and opportunities within our field,” says Mark Palermo, director of special projects, new media and technology for ASCAP. “We have many great artists who are still under the radar, some who consumers haven’t heard about yet.”
The music stream features a new genre each hour while the three downloadable podcasts focus on jazz, pop/rock and rhythm and soul, featuring relatively unknown talent as well as many artists and songwriters who have already gained a large following outside of terrestrial radio. The group will introduce video and audio coverage of special events as part of the ASCAP Network at a later date.
