The NFL is struggling to deal with its image after a video recently surfaced showing the running back Ray Rice hitting his wife in an elevator. A warm-up song played on Sunday before a game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Tennessee Titans at LP Field in Nashville didn’t help things. The Titans played the song “Fight Night,” by the Atlanta rap group Migos. The song has an aggressive hook, “Hit it with the left, hit with the right / I’m a knock the p—- out like fight night.”
Don MacLachlan, executive vice president of administration and facilities for the Titans, told ESPN, “We review everything we play on game days and play radio versions.” But the Migos track slipped through the cracks. “Fight Night” came out earlier this year on Migos’s No Label 2 mixtape. It has been on the Billboard Hot 100 for for 9 weeks, and it’s the biggest single of the group’s career, sitting at #72 on the latest chart.
Ray Rice has been indefinitely suspended by the NFL. This weekend, the Carolina Panthers also benched defensive end Greg Hardy, who was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in July. The Titans will presumably pay more attention to their pre-game playlist next week.
