Third Eye Blind, the Deftones, Sugar Ray, Liz Phair, and Crazy Town are among the artists who will perform at Breathe, the inaugural breast cancer benefit organized by the Step Up Women’s Network and Third Eye Blind’s Stephan Jenkins. Set for Oct. 27 at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, the event in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month will also feature Nikka Costa, Pete Yorn, Julia Fordham, and Run-DMC.
“What struck me most in talking to my friends in the music community about playing Breathe, is just how many artists have connections to this disease similar to my own,” said Jenkins, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor, in a statement.
Jenkins will serve as the musical director for the event, which will be hosted by actress Rita Wilson and VH1 personality Rebecca Rankin. Proceeds will benefit the UCLA Breast Center and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Breast Cancer Examination Center of Harlem.
Founded in 1998 by Kaye Popofsky, the West Hollywood, Calif.-based Step Up is a non-profit membership organization that unites female professionals to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research and other women’s causes.
