Instagram popularity may appear to be represented by the number of followers a user has, but there’s another element that can make anyone seem as in-demand as the Selena Gomezes of the world: mentions.
As 2016 nears its end, the folks at the photo-sharing app did some research focused on the amount of times an artist was referred to in a photo’s caption or comment and determined the top 15 for the year.
While Gomez still tops this list — she’s the most-followed person on Instagram with 103 million and counting — and five of the top 10 most-followed are also some of the most-mentioned, there are a few not-so-likely names that spice up this roster (you go, Ne-Yo!).
