Billy Gilman and Phoebe Snow are among at least 15 acts that will perform during an April 22 benefit concert for victims and survivors of the West Warwick, R.I., nightclub fire. Held at the Providence (R.I.) Performing Arts Center, which is donating the use of the facility, the event is dubbed “A Night of Healing.”
The show will feature acts ranging from church groups such as Servants and Saints to rock bands such as the Southern Rock All-Stars, which features former members of Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, and the Rossington Band.
Others committed to appear are Ricky Medlocke (formerly of Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Rick Derringer. Ken Botelho, a local promoter, said more bands will be added, adding that he has eight phone messages from musicians asking to join the benefit. “These people are coming out of the woodwork,” he said. “This list is far from being complete.”
Officials including Gov. Don Carcieri said at a Statehouse ceremony yesterday (April 3) that all proceeds from the concert would go to the Station Nightclub Fire Relief Fund, the main repository for donations to those affected by the Feb. 20 blaze at a Great White concert that killed 99 people and injured nearly 200 others.
Tickets for the event are priced at $35, $45, and $50 and can be purchased through the Providence Performing Arts Center Web site and box office (401-421-2787).
As previously reported, the surviving members of Great White will perform one song during an April 29 benefit show at West Hollywood, Calif.’s Key Club to raise money for a memorial fund founded in the memory of guitarist Ty Longley, who perished in the tragic fire.
