Artist and animator Darryl Sharp Jr. found a unique way to express his love for his favorite hip-hop stars by cooking up out-of-this-world recreations of his favorite album covers. In September, he announced that he was going to start a thread of all the album covers he’s animated.
i’m gonna start a thread for album covers i animated.

Twitter took proper notice on Wednesday (Jan. 24) and promptly went into a frenzy about Sharp’s creative expressions. Known as @DarrylTheSharp, the bold artist’s Twitter and Instagram pages are a deep dive into his favorite album covers and songs, which he brings to life through vivid video animation. Sharp has recreated some of last year’s most epic releases, and has also taken a stab at some classic projects as well.
From Outkast’s turn of the century jam Stankonia, to Kanye West’s polarizing 2008 album 808s and Heartbreak, the animations reimagine the album cover and set them to songs from the record. An animation of Frank Ocean‘s Blonde shows the crooner’s original cover — a blonde haired Frank covering his wet face — then brings it to life by having the enigmatic singer suddenly look up.
It doesn’t stop there, however, Sharp’s Instagram contains more recent works, including an animation of Jamila Woods’ Heaven and a full-on animated video that visualizes an interview with Jay-Z in which the rapper tells a story of how his daughter Blue Ivy can rap, and how she proved it during the making of 4:44.
