There are few things riskier on reality TV than to perform one of the judges’ songs. Get it wrong, there’s nowhere to hide. And to get it right, well, you need to go above and beyond.
On Tuesday night’s (Sept. 21) episode of NBC’s The Voice, Gymani rolled the dice. The 23-year-old Georgia native performed Ariana Grande’s “POV,” injecting a healthy dose of soul into it. The risk paid off when, first, Blake Shelton turned, then Ari.
At the start, Grande looked shellshocked and, then, swept away by the performance. When she could no longer sit still, she stood and applauded.
By the end of the rendition, Gymani had scored a four-chair turn.
