There’s no shame in taking care of your mental health. That’s the message Ariana Grande sent in an Instagram post shared Sunday (May 2) to mark May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month.
“Here’s to ending the stigma around mental health and normalizing asking for help,” Grande captioned a mini gallery of text slides about the subject. “Healing isn’t linear, fun, quick or at all easy but we are here and we’ve got to commit to making this time as healthy, peaceful and beautiful as possible. the work is so hard but we are capable and worth it. sending so much love and strength.”
In the second slide, Grande shared that to help destigmatize mental health issues, she’ll be making at least one post a week in May to talk about the subject. The seven slides also include mental health and substance abuse resources, ranging from postpartum support to the Veterans Crisis Line to Black Mental Health Alliance, The Trevor Project and more.
Grande, whose “Save Your Tears” remix with The Weeknd just hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, has discussed her mental health in the past. In June 2018, she opened up to British Vogue about the PTSD she experienced after the May 2017 bombing at her Manchester, England, concert. The attack had killed 22 people and wounded hundreds more.
“It’s a real thing,” she said at the time of PTSD. “I know those families and my fans, and everyone there experienced a tremendous amount of it as well. Time is the biggest thing.”
In the same interview, she also discussed her battle with anxiety. “”I’ve always had anxiety,” she said. “I’ve never really spoken about it because I thought everyone had it, but when I got home from tour it was the most severe I think it’s ever been.”
