Recordings of Aretha Franklin and King Curtis live from Fillmore West in 1971 have been remastered and expanded for reissue. Due July 11 from Rhino, “Aretha Live at Fillmore West” and “King Curtis Live at Fillmore West” each contain previously unreleased material from three March 1971 performances by the pairing at the legendary San Francisco venue.
In addition to the 10 tracks on the original release, Franklin’s set expands to two-discs to include 13 more songs from the Queen of Soul’s performances, including alternate versions of “Respect,” Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby” and Ashford and Simpson’s “You’re All I Need To Get By.”
The Curtis set, which was originally released shortly before the saxophonist’s murder in August 1971, includes versions of out-of-print songs like “Soul Serenade,” Buddy Miles’ “Them Changes” and George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord.” The original track list remains, which includes covers of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” Procol Harum’s classic 1967 hit “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” and Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).”
