On the April 6 stop of their Everything Now tour in Dublin, Arcade Fire deviated from their typical set list to include a touching tribute to Dolores O’Riordan, the lead singer of The Cranberries who passed away in January at the age of 46.
The telltale strings and acoustic strumming of 1993 smash “Linger” — which peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1994 — rang out in Dublin’s 3Arena before the band segued into the title track from their 2017 album.
Though the throw to the Cranberries track was brief, it made for a moving sing-along and a fitting nod to the late rocker, who secured her spot in the Irish band when she wowed them with an early version of “Linger” shortly after her initial audition.
