Non-profit organization PLUS1 partnered with 13 major artists to raise money for their favorite charities on Giving Tuesday, reaching 6.7 million fans worldwide.
Since launching the Giving Tuesday on Monday evening, the PLUS1 community raised $12,000 in 36 hours from touring artists who regularly work with the organization that donates $1 from every ticket sale to various non-profits.
PLUS1 galvanized artists including The National, Lissie, Sofi Tukker, 311, Lykke Li, Arkells, Broken Social Scene, Louis The Child, Chvrches and Rainbow Kitten Surprise to post about the organizations they supported this year on tour and to engage their fans on supporting further.
The non-profit organization has been helping artists raise funds for causes close to their hearts since Arcade Fire decided to tap into their audience to help Haitian families achieve financial autonomy. For the band’s tour in support of 2007 release Neon Bible, Arcade Fire began donating $1 from each concert ticket sold to Partners in Health, earmarking the money for the nonprofit’s initiatives in Haiti. By 2014, Arcade Fire touring member Marika Anthony-Shaw established PLUS1.
This Giving Tuesday, the band continued to support Partners in Health and another Haitian non-profit KANPE while posts from additional artists partnered with PLUS1 spread the word about 15 organizations and causes including mental health, women’s reproductive rights, environmental justice, domestic violence, music education, health care access, immigration reform, LGBTQi+ rights.
Carly Rae Jepsen called on fans to support Crisis Text Line that has helped over 100 million individuals across a range of crises from anxiety and depression and The Trevor Project, which has provided crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LBGTQ+ youth for more than 20 years.
Chromatics supported DonorsChoose.org resulting in fans helping 61 students gain access to educational tools and experiences.
Other organizations supported throughout the campaign included Planned Parenthood, Youth Speaks, Partners In Health, NRDC, Al Otro Lado, Equality NC, Global Wildlife Conservation Fund and Vh1 Save The Music.
The Giving Tuesday campaign adds to the nearly $10 million PLUS1 has collected and distributed from ticket sales since its inception. For more information on PLUS1 and associated artists, head to PLUS1.org.
