The first new Aphex Twin album in 13 years is finally becoming a reality. Richard D. James just released the first track from new LP Syro, the cryptically titled, five-minute song “minipops 67 [120.2][source field mix].”
Musically, the new song aligns with the “classic” Aphex Twin sound, nodding to tracks like 1999’s “Windowlicker.” Those are Aphex Twin YouTube statistics in the album art, up above.
The track’s YouTube description eloquently reads, “This is the first Aphex Twin dong fore 13 years between the publication of the first a formal music.”
From Sept. 5 through Sept. 10, Aphex Twin’s Syro (which drops Sept. 22 via Warp), will be streamed in a series of listening sessions in major cities around the world, including New York and Los Angeles.
