AOL has raised its profile in the secondary ticket market world by adding TicketsNow to StubHub as secondary ticket market partners in what is now called AOL’s Ticket Marketplace.
Combining the ticket inventories of TicketsNow.com with AOL’s current partner, StubHub, effectively makes AOL the leader in the market of secondary tickets–those available for resale by the consumer. In addition, individual sellers can post their tickets to a huge population of prospective buyers on the Web.
The AOL Ticket Marketplace makes AOL’s Ticket Center a comprehensive online resource for both primary and secondary tickets. The AOL Ticket Center offers tickets to more than 40,000 events at more than 6,000 venues.
The secondary ticket market is not always regarded favorably by the primary concert business, particularly when tickets are sold for higher than face value (Billboard, July 16). Some promoters, artists and venues maintain that ticket re-sellers are profiting from an event to which they don’t contribute; secondary ticket market proponents maintain they help move ticket inventory and satisfy demand.
