Although Anna Wintour prides herself on being one of the scariest (albeit most respected) women in fashion, the editor-in-chief of Vogue revealed a behind-the-scenes moment of vulnerability to Seth Meyers that we can all relate to on some level.
As a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers Tuesday (April 12), Wintour spoke about her experience at Kanye West‘s Yeezy Season 3 fashion show at Madison Square Garden, which evidently was a bittersweet experience.

Wintour revealed she arrived thirty minutes early to the show, leaving her to stick out like a well-dressed sore thumb as she waited for the Kardashian clan and Jay-Z to arrive. Photographers on hand even got a photo of the editor sitting alone with a blank look on her face, which Meyers joked that people could interpret the wrong way “because of [Wintour’s] reputation.”
Everyone arrived eventually, and Wintour noted that the show itself was wonderful. However, being the busy woman she is, Wintour wasn’t able to stay for the whole show — but finding an exit proved difficult.
“I slid into the basement of Madison Square Garden and I was lost there for half an hour asking various people to let me out,” Wintour said. “I was really in tears.”

Eventually, Wintour ran into a security guard who happened to also have coached her son’s baseball team — talk about a coincidence — and he led the fashionista to freedom.
Though Meyers found the story amusing, he could not relate to getting lost in the basement of Madison Square Garden, noting: “I don’t wear sunglasses inside, so I see exit signs.”
